In the year 2016 Assam Government has declared Majuli Island as a  new District of Assam. So now the police set-up is headed by Deputy Commissioner (DC). There are three police stations and two outposts in the administration of Majuli Island. Majuli Island has 20 Gaon Panchayats (GP), 8 of which come under Namoni Majuli Development Block and the remaining 12 under Ujani Majuli Development Block. Also, the Gaonburahs and Village Defence Parties(VDPs) maintain constant touch with the Civil and Police Administration.
