The newly created Raimona National Park of Assam is located in the Gossaigaon subdivision of the Kokrajhar district within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) across the border with Bhutan. It was declared as the 6th National Park of Assam on 5th June 2021 on the occasion of World Environment Day by the Assam Government. The area of the Raimona National Park includes the northern part of the Ripu Reserve Forest which adjoins the western-most buffer to the Manas National Park (also known as the Manas Tiger Reserve). The total area of the National Park is 422 sq. km.

The Raimona National Park is bounded by the Saralbhanga river on the east, the Pekua river on the south & the Sonkosh river on the west. Both the rivers the Saralbhanga & the Sonkosh are tributaries of the river Brahmaputra.

The Raimona Becomes Assam's Sixth National Park

The National Park shares boundary with the Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park & Phipsoo Wildlife Sanctuary of Bhutan which covers a conservation area of more than 2400 sq. km. of contiguous patches of lush green forest.

Main Attraction: The Raimona National Park is famous for Golden Langur, an endemic species which has been named the mascot of BTR. Also, the National Park is home to Asian elephants, wild water buffalo, Hornbill, Spotted deer, Indian gaur, Royal Bengal tiger, Clouded leopard, more the 150 species of butterflies, 170 species of birds, and 380 varieties of plants & orchids.

Why is Raimona Famous For?

  • The National Park is famous for Golden Langur, an endemic species which is known as the mascot of BTR.
  • The National Park is home to Asian elephants & the Royal Bengal tiger.
