In the history of Majuli, "Bornodi Bhotiai" is the first Assamese film which features the Assamese sattriya culture and colorful life of Majulian village people. The film reflects the colorful raw footage of the village people of Majuli and their fading hopes of life. Mr. Anupam Kaushik Borah is the person behind the film Bornodi Bhotiai. He is the first graduate of National School Of Drama(NSD) from Majuli. He is a successful acting trainer, actor, theatre director, producer, lyricist, short story writer, and a playwriter. The ‘Bornodi Bhotiai’ is the first directorial debut film of Anupom Kaushik Borah which storyline is based on fading hopes of Majulian rural people. Basically, Bornodi Bhotiai is a "love letter to the shrinking river island Majuli" which depict and reflects the complicated picture of the life of the Majulian rural community people.

The Majuli is the pride of Assam, tourist destination and attraction, first riverine island district, a cultural heritage hub and a flood-erosion affected wetland which is on the threshold of extinction. The Bornodi Bhotiai film reflects the actual hidden romantic picture of Majuli Island that goes unnoticed day by day.

Actual Meaning Of Bornodi Bhotiai:


Basically "Bornodi" means "The Big River" and it is another name of the river Brahmaputra. The eternal flow of the river Brahmaputra is the main metaphor of the film Bornodi Bhotiai. The Bornodi Bhotiai film reflects a tragic-comic story of some youngsters of Majuli who are in the search of their love and a bright or colorful future. But the love and colorful future don't come back to their life in the form they expected. In this film, the pride of Assam-Majuli plays the main role and the film also shows the struggle of the river island against the flood and erosion.

Magical Element Of The Film:

The first and main magical element of the film is the largest river island-Majuli which is also known as cultural heritage hub and pride of Assam. The other magical element of the film is- reality, natural acting, all the genuine situation and characters, their way of talking and behavior, etc.

The film has a cast of about 110 people out of which 10 are from the National Scool Of Drama(NSD) and other is the local people, non-actor of The Majuli Island.

Directed By- Anupom Kaushik Borah: He is a successful actor, director, short story writer, acting trainer, and playwriter. He is the first graduate of National School Of Drama(NSD) from Majuli. The Bornodi Bhotiai-Love, By The River(2019) is the first debut film of him as a director.

Kenny Basumatary: Kenny Basumatary is a successful director and actor. He is well known for his films- Local Kung Fu(2013), Local Kung Fu 2(2017) and Suspended Inspector Boro(2017). He plays the role of the character "Kushal Kakati" in the film Bornodi Bhotiai.

Dorothie Bharadwaj: She is a successful actor of Assamese Film Industry who plays the role of "Moukon" in this film.

Manisha Bhuyan: Manisha Bhuyan is also a successful actor of Assamese Film Industry.

Anupam Kaushik Borah: He is the director, producer, and scriptwriter of the film. He plays the role of "Luit" in this film.

Himanshu Gogoi: He is a successful actor and well known for the film "Bornodi Bhotiai-Love, By The River(2019)". He plays the role of "Bhaskar" in this film.


Kaushik Nath: Kaushik Nath is also an actor who plays the role of "Joy" in this film.

Rajib Nath: Rajib Nath is also a successful actor in the Assamese Film Industry who plays the role of "Tapan" in this film.

Sonmoni Sarma: Sonmoni Sarma is a successful actor in the Assamese Film Industry who plays the role of "Ximanta" in this film.

Music- Tarali Sharma: She is a well-known and famous singer in Assamese Film Industry. Tarali Sharma is well-known for her fabulous work on- Hiya Diya Niya(2000), Calendar(2018) and Bornodi Bhotiai-Love, By The River(2019)

Cinematography By- Prayash Sarmah Tamuli: Prayash Sharma Tamuly is the cinematographer of the film and he is also a good actor, known for Bornodi Bhotiai: Love, by the River (2019), Grief on a Sunday Morning (2015) and Daughters of the Polo God (2018).
